This is where hillside believes the church actually happens.  See theology of place for more on our thoughts on facilities and ministry.  Because of this teaching, Hillside strives to be a church “WITH”, and not just “IN” the community.  “House Church” is what most churches might call “Small Groups”.  Through these smaller communities we hope to become more interdependent upon each other and our neighbors as we journey in our faith.  House Churches are smaller groups of 12 - 15 people meeting together for the purpose of practicing our faith.  Click on practice for more information on what these practices are.

Hillside believes strongly in the discipling power of the community house church. Therefore, we have focused our attention for growth and discipleship into a network of individual house churches which makes up the Hillside body.  The network is then organized into regions.  Our vision is to encourage our people to own their communities and to claim them for the Lord. This in turn decentralizes ministry, moving it out of a single building and taking the good news to the communities where we live.

Our house churches are based off of geography, not demographics. This means that your house church will hopefully be close to the neighborhood in which you live. It also means that you may become part of a house church with believers of various ages and life situations. We believe this opportunity for diversity encourages a balance of life experiences and creates a family-like environment.  Not every person attending our weekend gatherings is involved in a house church (HC), however we strongly encourage everyone to get plugged in.

That said, it should be noted that joining a house church is truly a life-changing commitment. You will be joining a family. And as with any family, when you become intertwined in one another's lives, life can be messy. We believe that "messy" can be a wonderful place for discipleship and growth to happen.
